This aircraft has just undergone a 2 year nut and bolt restoration to factory spec. Never a duster the aircraft was rescued from a hangar in Wisconsin USA and painstakingly restored according to the original factory specification.
The engine is a Lycoming R680-9 overhauled by Radial Engines Ltd in Guthrie OK. The engine arrived back from overhaul in January 2015. The fuselage is one that was manufactured as surplus for replacement on the training squadron, hence has never been used. As part of the restoration the frame was blasted, treated and oiled. No cuts, repairs or dents. The centre section has been completely rebuilt to a very high standard and tanks have been blasted refurbished and pressure tested.
All wings have been meticulously checked and rebuilt where necessary. This aircraft has a new Jasco Alternator, starter and prop governors. In addition the prop has been the subject of a complete overhaul. Seats have been covered using bespoke “Ben Whistler” leather hide with matching cockpit trim. The instrument panel is correct as per factory spec with instruments that retain the vintage feel of the aircraft. All instruments have been overhauled. The whole aircraft has been completely recovered with Cecconite, hand stitched and expertly painted in US Army Air Corps colours using authentic Butyrate paint. The aircraft will also be completed with authentic US Army stencil markings by March 2015. This is a truly remarkable example that is effectively as it came out of the factory in 1943. This aircraft represents a superb example with time and money being no object in this superbly restored example.
